Water Availability Assessment for the Lunsemfwa Catchment

In this project an analysis was performed to determine if there was enough water to support an irrigation scheme in the upper Lunsemfwa Catchment in Zambia. The project was being developed by Nordzuker. The analysis yielded significant impacts on downstream users including the Lunsemfwa hydropower scheme and infrastructure interventions to ameliorate yield impacts were considered too expensive to support the irrigation water requirements.

Implementation phase: Framework for the Development of a Formal Classification System for Water Resources, for the DWAF: RDM

In this project a framework was set in place to develop a classification system for RDM based on the National Water Act of 1998. The system was established, and the framework used to inform later work on the development of an generic framework for the classification of Water Resources in South Africa.

Inception phase: Framework for the Development of a Formal Classification System for Water Resources, for the DWAF: RDM

Researched and development of a Classification System for water resources in South Africa. This framework system was developed for implementation based on current literature and the National Water Act of 1998. A risk-based classification was developed that balanced the need to implement the reserve against environmental impacts and impacts on Water Users.

The development of a computerized system for auditing real time historical water use from large reservoirs in order to promote the efficiency of water use from the reservoirs (WRC)

Developed a system which was used to setup different institutional arrangements in a reservoir. These included user specific curtailments and water banking. The system was then used to test specific institutional arrangements from a human behaviour and resource economics perspective.
